Master of Information Systems at Diponegoro University Organizes the 2026 Undip Global Classroom (UGC), Featuring an Expert from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to Discuss Information Systems Research Methodology

SEMARANG, msi.undip.ac.id – The Master of Information Systems (MSI) Program at the Graduate School of Diponegoro University successfully organized the Undip Global Classroom (UGC) program on May 8 and May 15, 2026. This activity is part of MSI Undip’s ongoing commitment to supporting the university’s vision of becoming a World Class University (WCU) while strengthening international academic collaboration. In this UGC program, MSI Undip invited an expert guest lecturer from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Associate Professor Dr. Suaini Binti Sura from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics.

Main Focus: Transforming Data into Insights through Information Systems Research

This international public lecture focused on “Research Methodology in Information Systems (IS)”. During her session, Dr. Suaini Binti Sura thoroughly explained how research in the field of Information Systems serves as a bridge for transforming raw data into actionable insights that can support decision-making, coordination, and management at the organizational level. Several key points discussed during the interactive lecture included:
  • Key Characteristics of Research: The importance of maintaining research that is systematic, objective, logical, and replicable.
  • The Role of Information Systems Researchers: Explaining the three main roles of researchers, namely as Theoretical Scientists (theory developers), Experimental Scientists (empirical evaluators), and Engineers (system designers and application developers).
  • The Scientific Methodology Cycle: A step-by-step guide starting from formulating research questions or problems, conducting background observations, developing hypotheses, identifying dependent and independent variables, to designing experiments and evaluating results.
Through this lecture, Master of Information Systems students gained a deeper understanding of how to evaluate the impact of technology on individuals and organizations, as well as how to create value through IT implementation and digital transformation.

Strengthening International Collaboration (UNDIP – UMS)

The UGC 2026 program was not merely a regular lecture but also a tangible implementation of the strong partnership established between the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Diponegoro University (UNDIP). Through this activity, MSI Undip students are expected to gain broader global perspectives in developing their theses and scientific research, while also opening opportunities for future international research publication collaborations.
