Master of Information Systems Program Holds Research Methodology Public Lecture Series to Enhance Thesis Proposal Quality and Scientific Publications

Semarang, May 5, 2026 – In an effort to improve the quality of academic research and publication productivity within the Master of Information Systems Program, the Master of Information Systems Program, School of Postgraduate Studies, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), organized a series of Research Methodology public lectures conducted in two consecutive sessions on April 30 and May 4, 2026. The event was part of the University Global Class (UGC) and World Class University (WCU) programs integrated into the Research Methodology course. The lectures featured Dr. Setyawan Widyarto, Dean of the Centre for Graduate Studies, Universiti Selangor, Malaysia, as the guest speaker.

The first public lecture was entitled “Developing Research Proposals: Focusing on Research Types and Designs.” In this session, participants gained an in-depth understanding of research designs that align with research objectives, as well as strategies for developing systematic, relevant, and scientifically significant research proposals. The session emphasized the importance of ensuring consistency among research problems, objectives, methodologies, and expected outcomes.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies stated that UNDIP is committed to producing graduates who excel in the advancement of knowledge, research, and innovation. Through this public lecture series, students are expected to develop high-quality research proposals that can be further developed into theses with outcomes suitable for publication in reputable scientific journals.

The second session, entitled “Writing and Publishing Research: From Thesis/Dissertation to Academic Publication,” focused on the process of transforming thesis and dissertation research into scholarly articles ready for publication in reputable international journals. Participants gained valuable insights into academic writing techniques, selecting appropriate journals, understanding the peer-review process, and effectively addressing reviewers’ comments and revisions.

Through this program, students were equipped not only with the skills required to conduct high-quality research but also with the ability to communicate their research findings to the broader academic community through scholarly publications. Publication competence has become an increasingly important indicator of academic and professional development in today’s knowledge-based society.
